Connecticut is close enough to the home fields of the Mets and the Yankees to make a day trip, but you don’t even have to go that far to enjoy some great baseball on game days!

Fans of collegiate baseball will find numerous beautiful ballparks in this state, including the historic oldest college baseball stadium in the country, located in West Haven.

Professional baseball fans can also take in a game in the sleek and modern Dunkin’ Donuts field, home of the Minor League Hartford Yard Goats.

So, even if your daily commute takes to into New York City, there’s no reason to leave Connecticut for baseball – check out some of these great ballparks located right here in the state.

Bush Field

Bush Field is a stadium in West Haven, Connecticut. The field was constructed and opened in April 1928 and is primarily used for the Yale University baseball team, the Bulldogs.

Until 2007, it was also the home field of the New Haven County Cutters Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball minor league baseball team. The stadium has a capacity of 6,200 people.

The stadium was originally known as Yale Field, and in 1979 it was renamed after former Yale baseball player George H.W. Bush.

The field is the oldest college baseball park in the country and has undergone several renovations and upgrades over the years, including the addition of lights for night games.

In addition to Yale baseball games, Bush Field has also hosted a variety of other events over the years, including concerts, football games, and hockey games.

The Ballpark at Harbor Yard

The Ballpark at Harbor Yard was a minor-league stadium located in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut. It was a 5,500-seat stadium that opened its doors on May 21, 1998.

The stadium was situated next to the Webster Bank Arena, which is now known as the Total Mortgage Arena. The name “Harbor Yard” was an allusion to Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.

Located on the Long Island Sound waterfront in Bridgeport, the stadium was surrounded by the busy Interstate 95 and the Northeast Corridor rail line.

The site had easy access to northern Fairfield County and the Naugatuck River Valley via the 8/25 connector.

Unfortunately, the city decided not to renew its lease with the Bluefish and closed the stadium after the 2017 baseball season.

The venue has since been converted into an outdoor concert amphitheater known as the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater.

New Britain Stadium

Dunkin’ Donuts Park

The stadium was planned to open for the 2016 season on April 7, but numerous construction delays postponed this opening and forced the Yard Goats to play the entire season on the road.
