I was a part of a Little League team growing up, and we had our fair share of characters in the dugout. There was a really big kid who was strong and athletic. He could crush a baseball out of a college ballpark. He was definitely intimidating to face, but also one of the nicest guys that we had. In fact, none of our big kids were inherently mean.

The one you had to look out for was the skinny, scrawny left-handed pitcher whose competitiveness could get the best of him. He wasn't exactly throwing at hitters, but he had a really violent-looking windup and throwing motion that could get hitters off balance and definitely have them back away from the plate if he threw an inside fastball. If there was any malice coming from any of the pitchers on our team, the closest would be coming from him. But we were just kids playing a kid's game, as they say.
What Adult Pitchers Bring to the Mound
When it comes to adults, the intensity level can rise all the way past 100. This channel, Baseball Doesn't Exist, does a great job of covering some of the more combative pitchers in history. I think my favorite example from this video was Bob Gibson. I never got to watch Bob Gibson play, but I know that there are countless stories. Most of them are about his greatness on the mound.
This video talks about that and more. I didn't know how much of a grudge he kept that lasted past his playing career. It kind of made me chuckle while watching, knowing that these legendary baseball players are really just kids at heart.
Redefining What Intimidation Really Means
I think the one thing about this video for me is that what I would specifically define as intimidating wouldn't exactly match what this creator's definition of it is. I think intimidation doesn't require violence. It is just about the potential for it.
